When in Rome: Swimming World Championships

  • The 2009 swimming world championships will start on July 17th in Rome

  • The event will be held at the Foro Italico near Rome’s Olympic Stadium

More than 2500 athletes and over 200 nationalities will participate in the swimming world championships that are held this year. Rome is the hosting city of the event, which will reach its 13th edition. The Foro Italico complex consists of 4 permanent pools. Another two pools will be added in order to get the championships finished in time.

The ticket prices depend on the importance of the races to be held that day and will range from 5 to 90 Euros.

There is more than just swimming: During the evenings water-realted art and entertainment will keep the visitor enthralled.

Those disciplines that require open water instead of a swimming pool will be held in Ostia, Rome’s coastal city.

The Foro Italico can be reached from Roma Termini by taking the subway to Ottaviano (line A) and then switching onto bus 32. Bus 910 is slightly slower but leaves from Termini and has its last stop at a short walk from the Foro Italico.

Rome Marathon – 22 May 2009

This Rome information blog is written for the guests of the Chaplin Bed and Breakfast Rome and the Hostel Little Italy.

One of Rome’s most atmospheric and loved sporting events is the annual Marathon: the city centre is transformed into a no-traffic zone and there are concerts and other performances celebrating this festival of sport.

As well as the marathon there will be the traditional “Fun Run” (a non-competitive event open to all).

“Marathone Village”, food stalls, toilets, shuttle services, police services and first aid points will also be available so that everyone can enjoy themselves in total peace of mind.
